2022 Season Write Up

Dear Gordon Football Community,

Thank you for your ongoing support of the club in a year that the weather gods has tested our patience and resourcefulness to the limit. We stuttered to a season opening with many games and leagues disrupted across the NFSA competition as the local councils and NFSA battled to ensure we had sufficient safe grounds open each week to get our teams on the pitch. The committee did a wonderful job of adapting week on week whilst moving the club strategy forward.

Highlights included:

  1. Securing Barker for indoor grading

  2. Welcoming friendship teams for the first time

  3. Securing St Ives showgrounds ‘sheds’ for training sessions

  4. Introducing weekly Whatsapp group feedback loops with XLR8 and our weekend coaches and managers

  5. Mid season XLR8 effectiveness review

  6. Launching our new website and logo

  7. Selecting new kit provider

  8. Supporting our community selecting new kit design

  9. Securing existing and new sponsors

  10. Donating the Gordon Soccer Club ‘Classic’ kit to our community

We hosted a number of events during the year including:

  • Meet the Team Day at GEPS

  • The Trivia Night at our sponsor The Greengate Hotel

  • Presentation Day at Darnley

We are farewelling Joanna Heke – Events and Merchandise, Neil Stuart-Findlay – Minis Registrar, Matt Conn – Kit Manager and welcomed a new role – Sarah Schneider – Club Administrator, Cathy Le – Mini’s Registrar. Thank you for your long service and ongoing support for the club and welcome to our new team members.

The committee structure will be changing next year with fewer committee roles, but the need for more support roles from the community. The Support Roles we need your help filling for FY23 are:

  1. Events Manager – this role will be supported externally and is key to help the club continue to host sponsor and community based events such as our Welcome to the Club Day and Trivia night.

  2. Growth/ Commercial Manager – the club is actively investigating the development of a club house and artificial turf at the Gordon Bowling Club and growing our sponsor base. This role will drive these activities with support from the President and Treasury

  3. Merchandise/ Kit Manager – the club is moving to a new kit fulfilment model that will significantly reduce the requirements of this combined role that ensures our teams are kitted appropriately for the start of the season

  4. Killara Public School Liaison – we have been working with the Killara Public School P&C to raise our profile and player recruitment numbers from Killara Public School and would welcome an active parent in the community to help us tighten our club connection

These roles would suit someone keen to contribute to their community. In modern workplace, much is made of finding purpose – for me personally I find it gratifying to give back, other committee members love the smiles on our kids facing when the first ball is kicked. What ever your motivation, Gordon FC roles will be fulfilling.

The Committee would entertain paid roles for school/ university students previously or currently associated to the club looking for practical experience that may augment their career aspirations. We promise to give amazing references for super stars!

Give thought to some of the on the ground coaching, managing and age group coordination roles for next year. All volunteers will be issued with the new club kit including jacket, polo and trackpants.

Gordon Football Club Junior Champions 2022 - Archie Hart and John Stuart-Findlay

On another note, it is superb to see the Gordon Soccer Club Classic kit on the pitch in many summer leagues this Spring and Summer!

Have a great summer and we hope to see a lot of you back for the 2023 season.
